Dan painting in the studio...I have been painting since around February of 2007. Before that I really hadn't done any painting in watercolor.... or, for that matter, much painting at all! Right away I really liked the way the watercolor acted and looked. I have been painting as often as I can since then and have even taken a few workshops. I took two workshops at the Des Moines Art Center with Kathy Glenn as the instructor. It was great to learn about everything from paper stretching to color mixing, to the different techniques for applying the paint. She was a terrific instructor and I would highly recommend her classes.
Pencil sketch for the painting "House on the Cliff"In September 2008 I was able to take a week off from work and head out to St. George, Utah to take a workshop taught by Roland Lee. What a terrific opportunity to learn from an accomplished artist and a great teacher. I really had a good time and enjoyed the experience. I feel like I came away with a new way to look at things around me and a bunch of new painting techniques as well as a chance to rub elbows with all of the other great artists who took the workshop.
